Veterans Day HNT

I was drafted into the United States Army on May 6, 1968 and sent to Vietnam in October. I survived, but barely. Read my story here.

Happy Veteran's Day, friend!

(is 'happy' the correct word?)

Thank you. Happy? I'm sure it is appropriate today. This is the day we honor those that served. Memorial Day is the day that we honor those that gave their life. That is the day 'happy' is not exactly appropriate.

I think this was the first Veteran's Day I spent really sad all day. My grandpa died 5 months ago and all I did was think about him on and off all day. I never told him to have a good Vet's Day because he always said the only good thing about the day was being alive to see another one pass.

I spent Saturday at my grandma's house hanging out, doing yard work, playing games and watching hockey with her. Before I left, she decided to get my grandpa's medals out and some papers and other random things from his time in the Air Force. Since he died, she hasn't really touched any of his stuff but she's finally going through everything slowly now. I got to see a picture of him from his first day in and some other interesting stuff that I'd never seen before including his discharge papers. I've always had so much respect for people who serve in the military, whether it was a choice on their part or not. So thank you for your service and thank you for sharing these pictures and your story. And sorry for leaving such a long ass novel of a comment, lol. :)
