September 19, 1924 - February 18, 2010

I miss the old guy and truly loved him. We got along so well and had so much in common it was scary. Like me, he had a great sense of humor, loved the honeys as he called them and was an electronic technician like I was. He was also a veteran of the army.

Bill was born, raised and except for his time in the military, lived there for the remainder of his life. Bill enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in 1942 and served as a radio operator in a C-47 cargo plane during the last few years of World War II. His unit was based in China and flew supplies back and forth to the front in support of China during those years.

(FYI, Japan and China had been at war since 1937, which was called the "Second Sino-Japanese War". That war ended when Japan surrendered at the end of World War II.)

In 1947 the Army Air Force was turned in to the Air Force, which is where Bill served the remainder of his tour until he retired in 1965. After Bill retired he used his electronics training to repair TVs and such until he retired. He used to drive around the area on garbage day looking for TVs put out for trash. He repaired them and then either gave them away or sold them for the cost of the parts it took to repair them. He also gave more than a few to his church.

Bill is in God's hands now and I'll miss him.

2010 Olympics HNT

The Olympic Flame or Olympic Torch is a symbol of the Olympic Games. Commemorating the theft of fire from the Greek god Zeus by Prometheus, its origins lie in ancient Greece, where a fire was kept burning throughout the celebration of the ancient Olympics.

During the torch's trek though the USA, Lori and I had the pleasure of hosting the torch bearer for one night.

Today was a snow-tastrophe in the northeast........... again. It was great day to stay in doors eating take-out Chinese food in bed.

The Story of Adam & Eve's Pets

Adam and Eve said to God, 'Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us.'

And God said to them, 'I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves.'

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.

And it was a good animal.

And God was pleased.

And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve, and he wagged his tail

And Adam said, 'Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom, and I cannot think of a name for this new animal.'

And God said, 'I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG.'

And Dog lived with Adam and Eve, and was a companion to them and loved them.

And they were comforted

And God was pleased.

And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, 'Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well.'

And God said, 'I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration.'

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.

And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat's eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.

And Adam and Eve learned humility.

And they were greatly improved.

And God was pleased . . .

And Dog was happy. .

And Cat didn't give a shit one way or the other...

I hope my son doesn't break his collar bone this year.

My son Brian plays roller hockey. Yesterday he had his second game and lost 11-4 just like the first game. I’m not really that surprised since his team is comprised of a bunch of “whomever they can get to play on the team” type team that just don’t have time to practice as a team. It all just for fun, nothing serious, just fun.

Did I leave out that both teams they played so far are teams comprised of really good players? Players that are professional frigging roller hockey players. YES, professional roller hockey players. World champion caliber hockey players none the less! Players that were on the teams that won the worlds in Europe and Japan.

A little background is in order. I live on Long Island in New York. Long Island it seems, was where roller hockey started. It spread through out the world with teams in Europe, Japan, etc. That’s how good the local teams are here.

You know what, loosing to world champions 11-4 is something to be very proud of.

My Mom

As many of you know, my 88-year-old mother has been in a nursing home since March. Last week I received a call that due to further decline in her overall health, they are putting her under the care of hospice on Thursday. My mom has been complaining for months about how tired she is of being in this condition. Soon, maybe she can get the rest she so desperately wants. God bless you mom!
